Let them eat cake!

New goal on my 101 list (revisions allowed, right? I mean, after all, 1001 days is a long time... and my interests change like... daily... haha) MAKE THESE:

I want to make cakes. Beautiful cakes. I'm sure the first few will be total flops. That's okay. I'll bring the extras to work with me. :)

Anyone know of a good cake-decorating class in the area?

The best feeling in the world...

Is finding out that you passed the test to get into your major and you made it, and you don't have to retake the test, don't have to replan your life, don't have to rework all your dreams, and the best part is that you prayed about it the night before and asked for God to guide you - and this was the answer.

I got into the Translation major. Green light to continue on the path I have planned!

Oh, and I also must share a bit more random trivia. I joined Sigma Delta Pi. We had a fabulous initiation ceremony where we stood in a circle and lit our candles from the club president's candle, symbolizing the light that shines within each of us, and then we put our lights out with our fingers. Although we didn't actually light the candles, because there's some pretty awesome fire codes about that. So it was all imaginary. I was then given some cords to wear when I graduate - in two+ years. Better not lose those. I also ate some strawberry cheesecake, met a bunch of people, and decided Sigma Delta Pi might end up being a lot of fun.

Second random story. I ate dinner tonight in the hallway of the JKB with the custodial night crew. Seriously. Apparently they have a potluck dinner every friday, and since my locker is in that hall, their overly friendly supervisor refused to let me gracefully exit and insisted I share in their feast. It was actually quite fun, once I got past the awkwardness of it all - I met four really awesome people at my table who I hope to run into again - they were cool.

Yay for super random days...

My happy new year

It's 2011.

I'm very, incredibly excited about this.

I kind of thought this year would never come.

There's not words to express how excited I am that it finally did.

Goodbye, 2010. I'm not going to miss you. Though I have to give you credit for a lot of things. Despite feeling like you were never going to end, you were, indeed, a big, year for me. A lot of things happened, and I accomplished a lot.

- I was accepted to my study abroad program in Spain.

- I made some amazing friends, one of whom I spent a memorable President's Day in St. George with. Love you, girl :)

- I addicted myself to the tv show Psych (which I don't regret) and macaroni and cheese (which I only sort of regret...)

- I learned how to drive a stick shift (maybe poorly, but still), played some pranks, and cried the day I got a full-tuition scholarship.

- I went to Institute for the first time ever, rediscovered a friendship I'm eternally glad I didn't let die, and spent time on memory lane with another good friend.

- I went to California for the first time, went on a cruise for the first time, and went to the dentist with no cavities for the first time... hehe.

- I went to Mexico (okay, for six hours, but that counts, right?) Disneyland, St George, San Diego, Jackson Hole, and Idaho Falls, all with my mom who I love very much :)

- I completed a number of home repair projects, some minor sewing projects, and watched a lot of soccer. Yay World Cup!

- I saw Carrie Underwood in concert at Stadium of Fire.

- I ran 6 miles straight for the first time ever.

- I got on an airplane and flew transatlantic to another country, where I learned the language, the culture, and a lifetime of knowledge about myself, who I am, and what I am capable of doing and becoming. It was the most amazing three months of my entire life.

- I got a new job, which I love, spent a month celebrating Christmas, and now I'm ready for another year.

Thanks, 2010, for all you taught me. I look back at the person I was a year ago - my hopes, dreams, wishes, feelings, everything, and then I look at who I am today, and I'm happy with the result. I guess that's the best I can ask for, right? 2010 wasn't a picnic by any means; it was full of trials like any other year, some of which included decisions more difficult than any I've ever faced. But I made it. And that's the important part.

Hello, 2011. What lessons, trials, miracles, and blessings have you got in store for me?

Not really superwoman.

So tonight after a long conversation, one of my good friends told me I was so strong.

After all, I spend time at home, I redo rooms of the house, I paint, I sew, I teach relief society, I cook occasionally, I clean up backyards, I take care of flowers, I have lunch with friends, I refinish furniture, I work 40 hours a week, I write to missionaries, I sketch, I play the guitar, I have deep conversations with friends, I go to bridal showers, I do pretty much everything. I'm some kind of warped LDS version of superwoman.

She's wrong. I'm not strong.

I set ridiculous goals for myself. Like to pay off a 7000 dollar loan in nine months. To read the entire book of mormon in Spanish in a month. To singlehandedly demolish four sheds, remove the materials, level the yard, build flowerbeds, tear out bamboo, and plant grass in one summer of weekends. To rebuild a broken relationship all at once. To be perfect, I guess. Isn't that what I'm supposed to be doing anyway? Working toward being perfect?

I haven't met any of those goals. And I won't. I can't. It's simply not humanly possible. But when I don't meet them, I tell myself it's okay, but somewhere inside I feel like I failed just when it was most important. And so to make myself feel better, I reset the goals, along with others, just for good measure. And pretty soon I'm caught in a cycle of failure and restarts and a lot of impossible expectations.

I'm actually pretty proud of the last year of my life. I met a lot of goals. I learned a lot of things. And don't get me wrong, I'm a very happy person. But still somehow it's never enough for me. There's always something I didn't do, something I failed at. Maybe that's the way I deal with stress - setting high goals and racing toward them, even when I know I'll crash and burn and fail miserably. It's the one thing I can control - myself, and what I do. When there's things that happen that I have no control over, I prove that I can control myself and my own life. I'm on a crusade to prove myself so people will say, See? All that going on in her life, and yet she's got it all together, never falls apart for a minute, look at how amazing she is.

I'm not strong. Insane maybe, yes. But not strong.

I feel like a lump...

So I miss feeling healthy.

Don't get me wrong, it's not like I'm sick or overweight at all or anything, I have remarkably good health, it's great.

I'm just sick of eating junk food, tons of sugar, and fairly unbalanced meals. I hate that I have practically no self-control or discipline in my snacking. I'm not sure what to do about it.

And I miss spending around 30 minutes a day doing physical activity I love. I've tried running, and it was going pretty well for a while, but the fact of it is, it's boring, and I really don't enjoy it. And it's impossible for me to stay motivated to do something I don't like and don't enjoy. I wish I had a way to play tennis more, that's what I'd like to do, short of being back on my clogging team, which isn't an option anymore.

This summer is going to be better. One day a week I'm going to run. One day a week I'm going to play tennis. One day a week I'm going to ride my bike. And one day a week I'm going to swim, dance, run, or do something else. I hope I can at least do that.

I'm also going to start today eating healthier, starting by putting the right amount of vegetables back into my diet, stopping drinking soda, stopping eating candy after 7pm, and only eating one serving of desserts when I'm at social events. Good deal? Hopefully.
